Aaron Yavelberg, LCSW

“Therapy is a space that people use in different ways. Some people use it to analyze their childhoods and figure out ways that their experiences have influence over their current behaviors. Others use it simply as a safe space to vent their frustrations about any issues they are facing. The important thing is that people get to work together with a caring, supportive and objective person to figure out how therapy will be most beneficial for them.”

I have particular experience working with children who have experienced various types of trauma, including physical and sexual abuse.  I also have experience working with families of different makeups, including LGBTQ families.

I work with people on a wide range of issues. The following are a few of my specialties (this list is not all-inclusive):

  •  Anxiety

  • Depression

  • PTSD

  • ADHD

  • OCD

  • Family Dynamics

If I have never been to therapy before, what should I expect? How do I know if I should go, and how do I start?

Therapy can feel awkward to a person who has never attended before, but in my experience, the feeling fades quickly. My clients can expect a warm, inviting atmosphere and a number of basic questions to help us work together to decide how our sessions will be the most beneficial. If someone is feeling ambivalent about whether or not therapy is right for them, I’d suggest that they make an appointment, attend a few sessions to get a feel for the clinician, and then see how they feel.
