For the last decade I have worked with high-achievers dealing with anxiety and stress as it presents in those who may not even think they “need” therapy. Sometimes this means they think they need a life coach, or to just “take a vacation” or go on a retreat. But often something a bit deeper is unfolding that therapy can help provide space to examine.

If I have never been to therapy before, what should I expect? How do I know if I should go, and how do I start?

Nothing is lost in trying it! You can make therapy what you want it to be, and don't be afraid to ask for what you want from your therapist with regard to approach, style, or scheduling sessions. I would say you are brave for trying therapy for the first time, and I would encourage you to not stop until the match or therapeutic approach feels right for you. You should feel like your therapist is a member of your team and even when they are gently challenging you, they are a member of your fan club and support and accept you 100%.
