Pam Skop, LMHC

“Therapy is a process that takes place by developing a trusting relationship. People come to therapy because there is something in their life that is not working for them, which can often lead to suffering. Therapy is the space in which to address that suffering and make changes to improve your life. This is not something that happens overnight, but with time and dedication it can lead to immense benefits.”

If I have never been to therapy before, what should I expect? How do I know if I should go, and how do I start?

If you are someone who has never been to therapy before, this can be a very exciting time for you! I personally believe that everyone can benefit from therapy. It provides a space for discussing your problems and making changes. It is a space that is purely yours. If you feel like there are changes you want to make in your life or areas for improvement, then therapy is for you. Starting can be daunting, but the first step is reaching out to a therapist to see if they will be a good fit. You have all the tools you need here to take that first step.
