Message from Daniel

The most important factor in choosing a therapist is finding someone who you feel comfortable with. I work with individuals and couples who are ready to disrupt old patterns and make lasting progress toward their goals. I can help you process the experiences and issues affecting you most and support you in developing the skills you need to move forward. You deserve expert-driven therapy that is relatable, effective, and affirming - you’ll find it here! My practice is specifically tailored to modern professionals and is a safe, supportive space for POC and LGBTQ+ people. Sessions are held via a HIPAA-secure online video teletherapy platform. As a recognized expert in the field, I have trained and presented to hundreds of clinicians across the country, including at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and previously served as a clinical supervisor at the Ackerman Institute for the Family. I'm also proud to have been featured as an expert on NPR and in various publications, including Well+Good, Bustle, and InStyle. Watch my welcome video: www.thecitypsychotherapy.com

Get to Know Daniel

"Daniel is a warm, intuitive, and sharp clinician. Beyond his depth of professional experience and expertise, he is also an active advocate and mentor to other underrepresented therapists, such as queer clinicians and clinicians of color. Daniel’s clients will find him to be socially and culturally aware, well-read, clinically confident in evidence-based practice, and naturally empathic."

Ariele Le Grand, MSc, LCSW, Colleague

"Daniel has this innate ability to connect with patients. That skill to communicate effectively yet compassionately is something that I try to emulate in my career."

Matthew Cobb, MD, Colleague

"I would trust Daniel with any of my patients. His sense of humor and inviting presence instantly make people feel comfortable to open up. He is passionate about helping others work through their most difficult times. Professional and nonjudgmental, Daniel will take the time to get to know you as a person and start from where you are."

Nara Lee, MSW, LICSW, Colleague

"When you work with Daniel, you are getting someone who not only has valuable knowledge and insight, but is also approachable and has an extraordinary ability to relate to people of all backgrounds. He has inspired my own clinical practice and is someone I look to as a role model in terms of knowledge, work ethic, and cultural sensitivity."

What is the best part of the work for you?

I have a very relational style in my therapeutic work. I am focused on helping you experience emotional safety, identify the patterns and unresolved hurts that leave you feeling stuck, clarify your own values and goals, and find a path forward toward growth and healing. Those things will happen through earnest discussion, laughter, and curiosity-driven exploration. I bring varied experience to my work as a seasoned clinician, clinical supervisor, instructor, expert consultant, and researcher. I am constantly engaged with the developments in our field so that you are receiving personalized treatment rooted in the most current and emerging clinical best-practices.

How participatory are you during sessions?

I am a really active therapist in sessions! Envision that you come to our sessions carrying a 1000-piece puzzle. You've been carrying these pieces around for so long, you don't even know how to make sense of them anymore. You'll dump those pieces on the ground so that you and I can look through them together. As therapist and client, we each bring different perspectives to our sessions, so I'll notice things that you don't notice, and you'll notice things that I wouldn't have noticed. Together, we'll make sense of those pieces, identify the patterns that are holding you back, and cultivate new paths forward.

Have you received any particular training beyond your post-Bachelor's training?

Yes, absolutely! I earned a Doctor of Social Work degree from University of Tennessee, a Master of Social Work degree from University of Pennsylvania, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Trauma Studies and Treatment from Adelphi University. I have also received post-graduate training in in a range of evidence-based treatment models, including EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Functional Family Therapy (FFT), and psychodynamic psychotherapy. This allows me to use an integrative and holistic therapeutic approach that is individually tailored to each of my clients. I have specialized training in providing therapy via online video teletherapy platforms.
