Message from Muriel

I approach therapy with the intention of being effective while being my genuine self. Virtual sessions might include a meow from my cat Rajie, and maybe even a cameo. I’m engaged and interactive in sessions, so that we’re having a conversation that feels comfortable and productive. We will develop goals for treatment based on your wants and needs. I use my training and experience, along with your strengths, to help you achieve goals. I use a variety of treatment methods based on your needs and how you respond to them over time. I have training in and utilize cognitive-behavioral therapy, rational emotive behavioral therapy, art therapy, and dialectical behavioral therapy skills. I would be happy to discuss and clarify any of these techniques during our phone call. I typically work with young adults struggling with depression, anxiety, and life transitions, and frequently with LGBTQIA+ folks. These individuals are often experiencing difficulties with dating and relationships, assertive communication with friends or bosses, setting boundaries with friends or family members, and/or mental health symptoms.

How can you tell if I am benefiting from working with you?

Symptoms are reducing and you're achieving your goals. I engage clients in the treatment planning process to make sure we're working on what you'd like to get out of therapy. Every 3 months, we review these goals to see how we're progressing and/or what changes are needed.

Do you assign homework, activities, or readings for me to do between sessions? Why or why not?

Skills learned in therapy help us cope with everyday life, and difficult times. I encourage clients to practice these skills to have them down for when they're needed. I will assign additional homework or assignments for clients who have expressed a desire to continue gaining insight outside of the therapy session. If homework isn't for you, we won't use it as a tool. Therapy should help you reduce stress, not add to it!

How participatory are you during sessions?

I am very active during my sessions and engaged with my clients.
