Welcome! My name is Jillian Adler, and I am a licensed psychotherapist based in New York City. I am passionate about helping individuals and couples overcome obstacles and understand patterns that might be keeping them stuck. In the therapy room, you can expect me to always be working towards understanding your goals and how to help you achieve them. I do this through direct and compassionate communication, while still leaving space for some levity even in harder moments. I believe compassion, rather than critique, towards ourselves and others, is what helps us create meaningful change. This will be a core tenet of our work together. I help clients navigate eating disorders, anxiety, depression, life transitions, romantic relationship concerns, and the everyday stressors that can leave you feeling stuck and/or overwhelmed. In addition to my work with individuals, I offer couples therapy and support partners in improving communication, repairing ruptures, and reconnecting emotionally and physically. I am currently completing formal couples training at the Ackerman Institute for the Family, one of the leading institutes for relational therapy, and bring a warm and deeply compassionate approach to the couples I work with. I hold a master’s degree from New York University, a B.A. from George Washington University, and a certificate in the psychodynamic treatment of eating disorders from the Institute of Contemporary Psychotherapy

Therapy is a way for individuals to build self-esteem, overcome obstacles, and realize what they want in this world. It is, then, a way for them to figure out how to achieve what they want. Additionally, it is a place where people can come on a tough day and know they will not be judged or ridiculed. It is an unconditionally kind and safe space meant to whole-heartedly benefit the client.
Our relationship will be different than relationships with your friends/loved ones because I will never judge you for your choices, get sick of hearing about your problems, and I will try to never bring my own biases into the room. It is your time to talk about YOU and to receive help with your issues unapologetically. Additionally, I am a trained mental health practitioner who will use specific tools and techniques to help benefit you. While a friend might be there to fully support you, I am there to support you AND help challenge some thoughts/patterns and encourage lasting CHANGE.
I have received training in eating disorders at the Institute of Contemporary Psychotherapy and in couples therapy at the Ackerman Institute for Families
