Message from Allison

Hi! I'm Allison, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California with over ten years of experience in the mental health field. My mission is to help you improve your relationships with yourself and those that mean to the most to you. In addition, I want you to gain the skills and understanding on how to approach life in a more present and grounded way. Whether this is together as a family, or as an individual on a healing journey, it is truly an honor to help facilitate and witness the profound ability we have as humans to shift from surviving life to thriving in it. Throughout my sessions, I work to bring trust, safety, connection and a little bit of humor and realness to the room. My style is one filled with warmth, compassion and truth. I draw on the models I am trained in to inform the foundation of my work and collaborate closely with my clients throughout the therapeutic process to make the most of our time together. I specialize in working with a variety of different types of clients which include: -Young adults: Growing up and finding yourself is hard. I have extensive experience working with teens and young adults looking to work through life stressors/changes, transitions and anxiety. -Women and mothers: I work with women on issues specific to women and/or motherhood including finding balance between the two, self care needs, finding your voice and self worth and feeling confident in your skin. -Adult individuals of all ages: I work with adults of all ages on a variety of issues including anxiety, trauma, improving relationships, personal growth challenges, life transitions and emotion regulation skills. -Families: I have a passion for working families who are looking to find more meaningful ways of communicating and relating with one another. -Parents: Parenting is the hardest job we ever take on. I often work with parents looking to work on how to show up for their kids in a present and more effective way or with those parents who need a safe space to process the highs and lows of what it is like to parent in today's society. -Other therapists/helping professionals: I provide a safe and supportive space for other therapists or helping professionals who are looking for a therapist. What degrees do you have and what techniques are you trained in?

I hold a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Sociology and a Masters of Arts in Professional Counseling with an emphasis on Marriage and Family therapy. In addition, I was hand selected during my masters program to be apart of a small trauma training cohort and have additional education in the principles of providing trauma informed care. The models that I am trained in, and continue to train in, include Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) and Emotionally Focused Family Therapy (EFFT). I have advanced training in both models and continue to train in these models consistently. EFT/EFFT aims to improve connections with those most important to you by enhancing vulnerable, authentic communication and identifying the blocks that stop you from connecting from the heart while also repairing hurtful patterns. I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy which is a model designed to reprocess trauma or triggering past events. I also have training in the Trauma Resiliency Model (TRM) as well as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) which is where I draw most of the tools from that I may introduce in sessions to help ground, regulate and move through distressing emotions and triggers. I most recently have trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS) to add to my toolbox in working with clients who wish to work on healing all of the unique parts within the mind-body to increase regulation and balance in their everyday lives. In addition, I am trained in a variety mindfulness and mediation practices, which I often utilize in my work with clients as well.

What are your policies and practices around insurance?

While I am not an in-network provider with insurance, I am happy to provide you with a super bill for any out of network reimbursement you may receive from your individual insurance plan.

How participatory are you during sessions?

I am a collaborative therapist, meaning I work with my clients to decide how we want to approach and structure our sessions to make the most of our time together.

Are there any philosophies or values that inform your work that I should know about?

The biggest value that I hold in my work is creating trust and safety with each other. When there is safety in the room, profound healing can happen. It's important to me that we are always checking in about where things are. If something feels really hard, it's important to me that we pause, slow down and reestablish safety within yourself and the space.

What is the best part of the work for you?

For me, building and cultivating the relationships I get to with my clients is my work's highest privilege. I believe that we are all capable of doing deep inner healing and discovering purpose, meaning and joy in our lives. I have the upmost gratitude to all of my clients who allow me to be a small part of their journey and it is truly amazing to witness the growth and transformation that I see every day in my office.

Where did you work before going into private practice?

Prior to opening my private practice, I spent several years working in a variety of mental health roles including serving as a community case manager for individuals with serious mental illness as well as providing mental health awareness and prevention education to students throughout the state of Arizona. I received specialized education and training in the areas of family dynamics and trauma in my graduate program and I completed my graduate internship at Rosewood Centers for Eating Disorders and continued my work there as their Primary Therapist in their Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program upon graduation. I then served as a Primary Therapist at KLEAN West Hollywood's Intensive Outpatient Program for Substance Abuse Disorders and was promoted to Lead Therapist of the program. In addition to my experience with eating disorders and addiction, I have had the honor of working as an Associate Therapist in an esteemed private practice in Los Angeles for many years, where I worked with teens, young adults, individuals, families, parents and women/mothers experiencing various life stressors, relationship issues, trauma and anxiety utilizing the models that I have been trained in.
