Get to Know Amie

Are there any philosophies or values that inform your work that I should know about?

I aim to empower clients to achieve mental wellness by providing individual and couple’s therapy through a multi-cultural, strength based and feminist framework. I use an integration of treatment models that are trauma informed, behaviorally activating and relational such as, EMDR, Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Client Centered and Relational Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, in addition to the use of mindfulness techniques.

Where did you work before going into private practice?

My professional background is rooted in providing Bilingual In-Home and Community Based Intensive Family Therapy for diverse families with an “At risk/ High Risk” adolescent transitioning from In-Patient Psychiatric Care, or children ages 4-18 who have experienced Domestic Violence and or other forms of childhood abuse. Most recently, I simultaneously worked for two New York based community organizations for several years treating individuals, couples and Hispanic families between the ages of 12 and 77 suffering from a range of mental health disorders and levels of severity. My passion is helping clients begin or continue their healing journey, rebuild their families and have healthier romantic relationships.

How do you approach diversity in the room or working with clients who may come from a different background than you?

During the intake and assessment phase, I complete a comprehensive assessment of a client's background that includes a focus on acknowledging all of the identities that play an influential role in the clients experience, including the role of cultural, racial, and spiritual background on your values and belief system. My style is to collaborate with clients in building a safe therapeutic experience that is inclusive, identity affirming and validating of their need for healing and emotional wellness. I believe this approach strengthens the client-therapist relationship, while helping clients develop the coping skills, emotional freedom and mental stability they are searching for.

How participatory are you during sessions?

My passion is to empower clients to speak and live their truth. My style is warm, passionate, collaborative, and done through a multi-dimensional integration of research based therapeutic models and exercises. I engage clients through the therapeutic process with an affirmative, multicultural, strength-based and feminist framework. I ask open ended questions to help guide the session to help increase insight, awareness, and perspective on the presenting issues. I regularly integrate psychoeducation, psychoeducational feedback, tools, resources and additional perspectives that are culturally comprehensive and catered to the client's learning and lifestyles.
