Message from Neville

Neville Oliver enjoys working with highly motivated and engaged people who are ready to make positive, lasting changes. He has a down-to-earth, friendly approach to help people find the motivation to reach their goals. His passion for helping others started with the belief that compassion, listening, and understanding are powerful tools for healing. Therapy is an investment to help get your life back on track. Are you ready to invest in yourself? My educational background spans the gamut of mass media, sociology, psychology, social work, political science, and liberal arts. However, I discovered through my journey that I’m most passionate about working with people individually on a one-on-one basis. All my life I have loved music, art, and different cultures. I have a special connection with music in particular because it moves my soul and spirit, inspiring me to uplift others. I believe that words and sounds have the ability to touch our hearts, open our minds to new ideas, move our souls, and lift our spirits. Everyone has the power to heal themselves; I will serve as a guide to facilitate your development regarding insight, help you realize your full potential, and live your best life. I love being a therapist because it’s incredibly fulfilling and rewarding to help inspire clients to make impactful changes within their lives. I help clients make positive life adjustments to reach their goals and realize their full potential. We accomplish this by building a therapeutic alliance and relationship based on trust. If you are struggling with anxiety, depression, PTSD, or unexpected life changes, I’m here to help. You are not alone. I can provide the expertise and tools to help you get to where you want to be in life. I provide a warm, judgment-free, empathic, and uplifting environment in my private practice setting. I create a safe space where you can feel comfortable to let your guard down and fully be your authentic self. I believe in treating the person as a whole entity. Instead of taking a textbook clinical approach, we will look at your entire life as a whole and see where you can make healthy adjustments that can be measured in a timely manner. I work with other like-minded professionals and practitioners who believe in caring for the person as a whole to create an individual, personalized, and holistic treatment team. Are you currently struggling with sleep, diet, physical, or medical issues? All of these factors can have an impact on your mental health, physical wellbeing, and ability to reach your personal goals. How does your lifestyle help or hinder your emotional health and overall wellbeing? Beginning therapy is one of the most personal and intimate decisions you can make, and being hesitant is totally understandable. Investing in therapy and seeking help doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with you. It means you are ready to improve your quality of life and start the process of healing and self-care. Instead of dwelling on what’s wrong, I take a goal-oriented approach so you can make positive changes and get to where you want to go in life. I create a safe, relaxing, and comfortable environment to help you discover your strengths, develop new insights, and help you reach your highest potential. I offer a free initial consultation so you can feel confident that we’re a good fit. What are you waiting for? The world is changing rapidly, and we are seeing people discuss mental health more openly as it moves into the mainstream and becomes a priority. People of color are beginning to realize that treating their mental health is a way to address inequities and oppression, and that investing in themselves is necessary for their overall wellbeing. I believe raising awareness about mental health reduces stigma and increases accessibility while giving people permission to seek help. As teletherapy becomes more commonplace, people who were traditionally stigmatized for receiving mental health care now have the ability to prioritize it without feeling shame or guilt. The cultural shift on destigmatization of mental health care elevates communities of color while helping to make the world a better place. Get to Know Neville

"After some years of trying (and failing) to cope with a wide variety of problems on my own, I finally decided that I needed to try something different. Opening up however, doesn't come naturally to me, and it would be fair to say I was quite skeptical of how effective therapy would be for me. I did however, love the idea that ZocDoc was a very private resource which I could utilize on my own, without making a big show of it. Once in, I admit, I was a bit turned off by the first few options that popped up as they seemed very... clinical. And then I found reviews of Neville Oliver. "Welcoming...Relaxed...Calming...REAL". I wasn't sold on the idea of therapy yet, but I was sold on Neville, as as you probably can assume by now, I'm here writing a review because he has exceeded all aforementioned expectations and I hope someone else finds this review and decides to reach out -FOR THEMSELVES- like I did, and it's my hope that they trust Neville to do it. He's helping me break down walls in ways that work for me, re-read that with emphasis on "that work for me", it's important. His time won't break the bank and you get much more then just your hour session. We often tend to end with "You have to check out this article, I believe it will help you" and he never fails to deliver, even when the meter stops ticking. To those reading, if you're on the fence, just take a leap of faith; you owe it to yourself. To Neville, if you're reading this, thanks man! "

RB, Client

"I have no complaints about my visit Neville is prompt and helpful. With his help I was able to face many fears with successful outcome. Even though I still have more work to do in therapy, I feel with his guidance I will achieve my goals. "

RR, Client

"The visit was great! I learned to break down daily situations on a deeper level to gain a better understanging as to why I feel the way I do. I am beginning to learn how to break down these scenarios as they are coming into play in my life & I find myself to feel as if I have more control over situations than before. "

QG, Client

"From beginning to end of every visit, Neville puts my issues & concerns as first priority. We'll visit trigger issues, making what I see him for even more poignant. He is very knowledgeable in his field, and if there is something he doesn't know, he'll do extensive research to find out. "

MB, Client

Do you assign homework, activities, or readings for me to do between sessions? Why or why not?

Yes I provide assignments and homework for you to complete that relates to your treatment and areas of challenge. I find this helps reinforce what was learned during session and provide clients the opportunity to process and practice what is being taught and implemented on a daily and weekly basis. Therapy is not only done in the office the real work begins outside of the office setting and implemented in real life situations.

What is the best part of the work for you?

I love what I do for a living and I’m passionate about my work I would do this for free because it is a very fulfilling and gratifying profession to me and my personality.

How participatory are you during sessions?

I am very hands on and engaged in the therapeutic process and I’m invested in your progress and accomplishments while in therapy.

Is there ever a time when you would encourage me to leave or graduate? Or how do I know when it's time to end or move on, or time to stay and explore more?

While in therapy you should see a reduction in your symptoms and challenges and you will accomplish goals during treatment. As you get a better handle on your issues and accomplish your goals you will know when it is tile to leave therapy and treatment with me.

How long should I commit to being in therapy, at least in the beginning?

I ask for a minimum of 12 session commitment with me because more than likely whatever brought you to therapy did not happen overnight nor will you get a handle of it in less than 3 months.
