What are your policies and practices around insurance?

In my practice, I understand the importance of accessibility and affordability in seeking mental health care. That's why I offer flexible payment options to accommodate the diverse needs of my clients. I accept insurance from a variety of providers. For clients who prefer to pay out of pocket or have out-of-network benefits, I offer sliding scale rates based on income and financial circumstances. For out-of-network clients, I provide superbills, which are detailed invoices that can be submitted to insurance companies for potential reimbursement. My goal is to ensure that cost is not a barrier to receiving quality mental health care, and I am committed to working with each client to find a payment option that suits their needs and circumstances.

How do you approach diversity in the room or working with clients who may come from a different background than you?

I value diversity and respect each client's individual cultural background, identity, and experiences. I prioritize learning and listening without imposing my own biases, and I acknowledge the complexity of people's identities. My goal is to work together with clients in a way that honors their cultural beliefs and values. I adapt my approach to meet their preferences, creating a safe and empowering environment where everyone feels recognized and valued as they work toward healing and growth.

How participatory are you during sessions?

I believe therapy should be an engaging conversation. Clients don't seek therapy just to have the therapist nod and say "mhmm" the entire time. In our sessions, I will ask questions that encourage meaningful dialogue and help us explore your goals together. I actively participate in sessions, ensuring that we stay on topic and make the most of your time.

How will our relationship be different than relationships I have with friends/loved ones?

In therapy, the main goal is to help the client grow and heal. Therapists follow clear rules to protect the client's well-being, like keeping things confidential and staying focused on the client's needs. Unlike friendships where there's give and take, therapy is all about the client—what they want to talk about, what they need help with. The therapist is there to listen, support, and offer guidance without getting too involved personally. While friends and family also offer support, therapy provides a unique space solely for the client's benefit, where they can explore freely without worrying about judgment or other people's needs influencing the conversation.

If I have never been to therapy before, what should I expect? How do I know if I should go, and how do I start?

Our initial session will be a chance for me to get to know you better and understand what brings you to therapy. Together, we'll set goals for your therapy journey, focusing on what you want to achieve and how we can work towards it. Throughout our sessions, I'll provide guidance and teach you coping strategies to help you manage your emotions and navigate life's challenges more effectively. Therapy is a collaborative process, and I'm here to support you every step of the way as you explore and grow. If you're unsure whether therapy is right for you, don't hesitate to reach out. We can discuss your concerns and explore how therapy might benefit you.

From your perspective, what is therapy?

Therapy is a deeply personal and collaborative journey toward self-discovery, growth, and healing. The therapist serves as a compassionate guide, providing unconditional positive regard, empathy, and genuine understanding. Therapy is a space where individuals can explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a safe and nonjudgmental environment. It's a process of self-exploration where clients are empowered to express themselves authentically, without fear of criticism or rejection. The therapist works to create a supportive atmosphere where clients feel truly heard and understood, allowing them to gain insight into their own emotions and behaviors. Ultimately, therapy is about fostering self-awareness, self-acceptance, and personal growth. It's a collaborative journey where clients are encouraged to take an active role in their healing process, guided by the therapist. Through this process, clients can discover their inner strengths, overcome challenges, and cultivate a greater sense of well-being and fulfillment in their lives.
