How long should I commit to being in therapy, at least in the beginning?

The best way to develop a therapeutic relationship is to meet on a weekly basis for the first 4-6 sessions. This allows the therapist and client to see if it's a good match, develop a rapport, and delve into addressing the client's needs.

Where did you work before going into private practice?

I work in private practice and separately I do crisis prevention social work and executive functioning coaching. Each of these roles are distinctive and rewarding. Prior to these roles, I worked for a social work company providing case management for adults with developmental disabilities, and I worked in a psychiatric hospital on the crisis prevention and response team. I also volunteer for NYP Hospital doing rape crisis counseling, which I have done for several years.

From your perspective, what is therapy?

A safe space to candidly explore challenges in your daily life without fear of judgement. Therapy is a supportive partnership where you can reflect on your own patterns of behavior, air grievances, and develop tools to enhance your life.
