Message from Elaine

Welcome! I view therapy a creative and collaborative process that can help you feel at home in yourself and create the life you want. I specialize in working with Highly Sensitive People, and with the adult siblings of people with developmental disabilities. I also help people who are struggling with anxiety, trauma, and self-expression. I'm an art therapist, and am trained in Hakomi (a mindfulness-based somatic psychotherapy), Core Energetics, Guided bilateral drawing for body-mapping trauma, and Attachment-Focused EMDR. I look forward to learning more about you and your needs during our consult call.

Get to Know Elaine

""Elaine was born with the gift of what’s called therapeutic presence. Her natural instinct is to listen with full attention and compassion. Coupled with an approach to therapy that understands emotions are situated within bodies—that mental health and physical health are inseparable—Elaine possesses the most important qualities that I would be looking for in a therapist.""

Dean Olsher, Colleague

Do you assign homework, activities, or readings for me to do between sessions? Why or why not?

Sometimes I may invite you do activities, practices, or readings between sessions. When I do, the activity is related to the themes we’ve been working on together. This can help you bring more awareness to habitual thoughts, emotions, and behaviors in daily life, and also a provide an opportunity to try new ways of being. Some examples might include: - Breathing or movement exercises. - Writing in a journal. - Using art for self-expression. - Mindfulness exercises. For example, when you have the urge to indulge in a habitual behavior, pause for one minute to notice the sensations you experience in your body.

Are there any philosophies or values that inform your work that I should know about?

I believe we are all whole, creative, and resilient beings. Our ability to survive through all kinds of challenges is testament to this. If you’re reading this now, you’ve survived the challenges you encountered in your life. Sometimes, to make it through difficult times, we sacrifice parts of ourselves. This is especially true for childhood pain and trauma. But this sacrifice does not need to be permanent. With the support of psychotherapy, you can heal parts of yourself, bring out more of your potential, and live a more satisfying life.
