I am a licensed psychologist with 20 years experience working with people with unusual experiences and expertise in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Psychosis (CBTp). I am the Founder & Director of NYC CBTp, a private practice in NYC dedicated to providing evidence based therapy for folks experiencing unusual experiences. I also provide training and clinical coaching in CBTp to mental health professionals, as well as business coaching in how to work with unusual experiences in private practice. These experiences include but are not limited to voices, sounds, music, whistling, crying, knocking or banging that other people cannot hear; visions, flashes, flames, blinding light, or geometric figures; feelings on or just beneath your skin, like bugs crawling or other unusual perceptual experiences; intense fears that others may be watching or talking about you; concerns that people in your life are not loyal or trustworthy; feeling like you may not be in control of your own thoughts/ideas; sometimes feeling like things you see on the TV or read online may have special meaning; telepathy, psychic forces, or fortune telling. Far more of us therapists in private practice have clients on our case load with these experiences than most of us realize. And they deserve the specialist treatment that is evidence based to be effective to them. You can learn more from our online, on-demand course "The Fundamentals Behind CBT for psychosis" available here https://www.nyccbtp.com/online-courses.html or reach out to me for business coaching here https://www.nyccbtp.com/business-coaching.html

Get to Know Sally
I take a normalizing approach to psychosis. I believe strongly that the beliefs and experiences commonly regarded as symptoms of psychosis are in fact highly understandable reactions to life events such as trauma, rather than a medical or biological condition requiring treatment solely with medication or hospitalization. In the US this often means that people experiencing psychosis have also often been through injustice, discrimination or segregation. I am firmly committed to reducing the stigma associated with these unusual experiences and to offering people access to evidence based treatments in a private practice setting, as a way of reducing this discrimination.
I avoid using labels, unhelpful diagnosis or judgment. I have helped hundreds of people with psychosis overcome their distress and achieve their goals, without shame or stigma. I approach the treatment of psychosis from a person centered, recovery oriented perspective. I do not believe that you are sick, wrong, or bad. And I will work to help you achieve your goals while maintaining your sense of yourself and personal identity.
