Message from Robert

We get so many messages in our daily lives about how we "should" be living; media, friends, and our community all have a different idea, which can be confusing and not really resonate with what WE want. If we grow up with family dysfunction and trauma, this can feel familiar and even more dissonant. We struggle with our needs without a real template of what we want. It can become an exhausting pursuit! It gets harder to listen to our own voice and what our needs are. I am drawn to helping people who have dealt with trauma and feel persistent isolation and sadness in their daily lives. By looking at things together a different way, we can navigate a different path. Let's explore together, like astronauts! By gaining perspective, you can find more opportunities for strength and agency in your daily life. I am credentialed with a handful of insurance companies, and can offer private pay, out of network, and sliding scale options. Contact me for a free consultation at robzorellalcsw.com !

Get to Know Robert

How will our relationship be different than relationships I have with friends/loved ones?

Ours will be similar in that, when it is working well, it can be a very supportive and validating relationship. After all, we are human! This doesn't have to be a clinical experience. The different is that my goal is create a safe, validating space where we can talk about anything - Good, Bad, Angry, Sad, Weird, or often taboo. I don't have a stake in this situation other than to hear you out, and to explore these feelings with you.

Where did you work before going into private practice?

I worked for 20 + years in the Film & TV Industry as an Art Department Coordinator (among many other things). Part of my aim in starting my private practice was to also market my skills towards this community.

What is the best part of the work for you?

As Ive mentioned in my profile, I really value the exploration and the feeling of connection in therapy. It can be rewarding (and alot of fun!) to be able to sit without judgement, gain perspective, and to make new connections.

How participatory are you during sessions?

It varies - I begin with making it clear that you are in control of this experience. YOU control the gas and the break. But I think I tend to be more active/conversational in my style, usually offering validation and reflection when it feels appropriate.
