Elizabeth Burns, LCSW

Message from Elizabeth

I believe that therapy is a chance to be heard and to feel understood. My therapeutic style is flexible and adaptive to the needs of my clients, and I work with individuals experiencing anxiety, relationship issues, life transitions, grief, chronic illness, and self-esteem. I am a warm and compassionate listener who is dedicated to creating an open, calming, and safe environment. One of the primary goals of our work is for you to gain a deeper understanding of your inner world, and feel safe and confident expressing your goals, needs, and desires. Prior to joining SelfWorks, I was a medical social worker at a hospital in Manhattan, specializing in hematology-oncology. I have a master’s degree in Social Work from Fordham University’s Graduate School of Social Service and I worked closely with adults with life-threatening/chronic illnesses as part of my graduate training. Before attending graduate school, I worked in Washington, DC at a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing men, women, and children with a wide variety of services including counseling, access to medical services, educational opportunities, and job training. A little about me: I am passionate about travel, and I especially enjoy exploring new beach destinations and hiking through the Hudson Valley or National Parks. In my free time, I also enjoy cooking new recipes and spending time with my husband, family and friends.
