As a therapist, I provide a safe and affirming space for individuals to explore their identities, heal from trauma, and build resilience. Throughout my career, I have worked with immigrants, refugees, Black, Indigenous, People of Color, and LGBTQ+ community. I value the culture, identity, and lived experiences of the individuals that I work with. By understanding the unique challenges faced by these communities, I tailor my approaches to meet the specific needs of each client.

Get to Know Barbara

How will our relationship be different than relationships I have with friends/loved ones?

Our relationship will be different from your relationship with friends or loved ones because it is a professional, therapeutic alliance. It is fully centered on you, your growth, and your healing. My role is to provide a safe, nonjudgmental environment where you can explore your thoughts and emotions freely. Therapy is intended to support your goals and help you move toward greater insight, resilience, and well-being.

How much do you share about yourself during our time together and why?

I believe that thoughtful, limited self-disclosure can be a powerful tool in building connection and trust. When I share aspects of my own experience, it's always with the intention of helping you feel understood and supported. I choose to share only what I believe will be meaningful or helpful for you. Whether it's to normalize your feelings, highlight that you're not alone, or to foster a deeper therapeutic alliance.

How do you approach diversity in the room or working with clients who may come from a different background than you?

I approach working with diversity through the lens of cultural humility. I strive to remain open, curious, and respectful, recognizing the importance of ongoing self-reflection and learning. My goal is to create a space where clients feel seen, heard, and valued for who they are, including their cultural identities and unique perspectives. I work collaboratively, asking questions rather than making assumptions, and I continually seek to expand my understanding through both personal and professional growth.

From your perspective, what is therapy?

I have an integrated approach to therapy. I enjoy integrating creativity and artistic expression in the therapeutic process. My practice has focused on trauma-informed care, liberation, and cultural competence. I recognize the importance of understanding and respecting the cultural backgrounds and experiences of my clients. I encourage clients to express their needs, set goals, and take charge of their healing journey to foster empowerment.
