Message from Robert

My name is Bobby Galvin. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and therapist. I am always available to meet for a free consultation via video conferencing or phone. You can meet me to see if I am a good fit for you and ask me questions about myself or my approach. I specialize in working with college students and young professionals, ranging in age from early twenties to late thirties. My clients are dealing with work pressure, struggling with work-life balance, not feeling professionally fulfilled, and experiencing imposter syndrome. My clients often struggle with high standards, perfectionism, and wanting to please others. I also treat clients who have anxiety, depression, ADHD, PTSD, and transitional issues that cause identity crises. I also help clients cope with family trauma/conflict and the impact of aging parents. I currently have a diverse client base that includes individuals, couples, and teenagers or adolescents. My clients come from various backgrounds, including LGBTQ+, AAPI, Arab Americans, Indian Americans, Pakistani/Bangladeshi Americans, and African Americans. I also work with neurodiverse clients, including those who are autistic (ASD). I focus on your strengths and skills that can help you address your problems. My strengths as a therapist include putting you at ease, actively listening, and talking in a natural and organic way. My clients have said that my interactive style, positive attitude, and humor are reasons they continue to see me. I also believe in being honest, direct, and straightforward. I think my clients value my open and transparent manner when working with them. I will admit when I don’t know something. \

SC, Client

How do you approach diversity in the room or working with clients who may come from a different background than you?

I currently have a diverse client base that includes individuals, couples, and teenagers or adolescents. My clients come from various backgrounds, including LGBTQ+, AAPI, Arab Americans, Indian Americans, Pakistani/Bangladeshi Americans, and African Americans. I think my strength is that I am comfortable with myself. I will ask questions or admit when I lack knowledge about something. I think my being honest and direct has been my approach. The majority of my clientele

How much do you share about yourself during our time together and why?

I try to say very little about myself. If the client asks me a question and its relevant to their treatment I might say something about myself. I will say something to support or acknowledge a client's feelings. I try to convey that I am human and very imperfect. I think my clients appreciate when I acknowledge my own faults.

Is there ever a time when you would encourage me to leave or graduate? Or how do I know when it's time to end or move on, or time to stay and explore more?

As a therapist, I am proud that many of my clients have graduated from weekly sessions to monthly sessions. I also have clients who have stopped treatment because they are happy with their progress. I do not subscribe to the belief that clients need endless therapy. I am pleased when a client is ready to move on or wants to see me sporadically. The client and I collaborate on termination or reduction of sessions. I have also discharged some clients when I felt that I was not the best fit for a particular client.

What is the best part of the work for you?

I am passionate about my work because I love what I do. I am invested in my clients. I appreciate the relationships I have made and the progress my clients have made. I am also passionate about being a positive, supportive influence in my clients’ lives. I feel very fortunate that my clients trust me and return to our sessions ready to work on their issues.

Are there any philosophies or values that inform your work that I should know about?

I focus on your strengths and skills that can help you address your problems. My strengths as a therapist include putting you at ease, actively listening, and talking in a natural and organic way.

How participatory are you during sessions?

I am an active participant in our sessions. My clients have said that my interactive style, positive attitude, and humor are reasons they continue to see me. I also believe in being honest, direct, and straightforward. I think my clients value my open and transparent manner when working with them. I will admit when I don’t know something.

If I have never been to therapy before, what should I expect? How do I know if I should go, and how do I start?

In our initial sessions, I will conduct a thorough intake covering current and past mental health concerns, current stressors, and relevant history. During the first session, I will ask why you are seeking help. In subsequent sessions, we will work to identify the issues you wish to discuss and how they impact your life. I value your perspective and life experience as a key component in the therapeutic process.
