Message from Marissa

I’m a compassion-focused therapist and certified yoga instructor who works with adults navigating anxiety, self-criticism, identity-related stress, and life transitions. I primarily support cishet women and LGBTQIA+ clients seeking greater ease, confidence, and self-trust. My approach blends practical tools with mindfulness and nervous-system awareness. Sessions are collaborative, supportive, and grounded in self-compassion rather than pressure or judgment. As a queer woman, I bring an affirming, socially aware perspective and aim to create a space where clients feel safe, understood, and supported as they work toward meaningful change.

How participatory are you during sessions?

I’m an active and engaged therapist and sessions feel like a collaborative conversation rather than a one-sided experience. I listen closely, ask questions, offer reflections, and share feedback when it’s helpful. While I bring clinical training and experience, you are the expert on your life and my goal is to create a space that feels safe, comfortable, and supportive as we work together.

Where did you work before going into private practice?

Before private practice, I spent six years working as a therapist in a college counseling center in Queens. During that time, I supported students individually and led LGBTQIA+ programming, including a therapy group and a health and wellness initiative I developed. This experience shaped my affirming, collaborative approach to care.

Are there any philosophies or values that inform your work that I should know about?

A core value that guides my work is the belief that understanding leads to compassion and compassion creates change. When you begin to understand your thoughts, emotions, and the systems that have shaped you, self-judgment often softens. From there, you may start to see yourself as worthy and make choices that feel more aligned, empowering, and supportive of your relationships.
