Vickya Leslie, Clinical Psychotherapy Intern

Message from Vickya

Hello! My name is Vickya Leslie. I am a Registered Psychological Associate PSB94028100, and Ph.D. candidate at Saybrook University studying Clinical Psychology. I work with adults and couples who are struggling with PTSD, anxiety, depression, a mood disorder, personality disorder, and relationship distress. I am a part of the LGBTQ community and view it as my safe haven. I take extreme pride in empowering queer folks to embrace their identity and love themselves despite their sexuality. I recognize how hard it can be for individuals to navigate the changes that occur while coming out and I want to help them with that difficult life transition. In my sessions, I use a humanistic approach. I believe that my clients should have autonomy when making decisions and I work with clients collaboratively to guide them through their decision-making process so that they can eventually work through any situation on their own. I want to give clients tools to use and work with that they can always turn to when they are struggling. I’m also skilled in somatic experiencing and I often use art as therapy during my sessions if finding words to voice emotions becomes difficult. If my energy resonates with you, go ahead and click the “Contact” button above to set up your free consultation with me! I am looking forward to meeting you soon! Warmly, Vickya Supervised by Dr. Roberta Rubin PSY12748

Get to Know Vickya

What led you to become a mental healthcare practitioner?

I'm a highly empathetic person and have had to work through trauma on my own. I want to help people work through theirs so that they can feel like they have a support person and someone who advocates for their well-being on a consistent basis.

How much do you share about yourself during our time together and why?

I believe that sharing my own personal experiences humanizes me and therefore I think it's important to share small details about myself to let my clients know that they are not alone with what they are experiencing.

What is unique about the work you do, or how have you found your work to be different than your colleagues'?

I come from a very diverse background, which enables me to work with different types of clients. I am a queer, POC and I am also spiritual/into somatic practices. I like to incorporate mindfulness into my sessions and bring some of my learnings from my humanistic Ph.D. program. I am getting my Ph.D. in clinical psychology which has equipped me to thoroughly work through mental health issues and understand emotions better than other coaches.
