My name is Alyssa. I am a therapist, social worker, writer, and entrepreneur. I am in therapy myself and could not be more proud of that. But, it took me a while to get there.
A big part of my journey was finding a therapist who understands me, who is my advocate, and who helps me understand that whatever my truth happens to be, it is valid, it is worth sharing, and I am likely not alone.
I started My Wellbeing in a large part due to my own difficulty finding a therapist who resonates with me. I started training as a therapist, and found myself visiting therapist after therapist, consistently disappointed by the experience (sometimes having outright negative or offensive experiences), and all the more disappointed in myself. I kept asking myself, "Why is it so hard to find the right therapist?" which often led to, "Is there something wrong with me?"
I'm happy to tell you there is nothing wrong with you. It is surprisingly and frustratingly challenging to find a therapist who you can connect with. Logistics like fee and location, understanding what technique would be best for you, and trusting your instinct to judge on chemistry and rapport, are all factors that can get in the way.
I created My Wellbeing to help you find your fit. Yes, therapy can be uncomfortable. You're on the verge of sharing thoughts and feelings you've likely been hiding from yourself for a long time to a relative stranger, and that's bound to feel a little strange. Yes, a lot is up to rapport. Chemistry is responsible for over 70% of what makes therapy work (I know, sounds a lot like dating).
Rest assured, my team and I understand the therapy space and we are here to help you. If something doesn't feel right about the first connection, we're here to talk it through, and connect you with another therapist. Every step of the way, we are here, until you find a fit you feel safe with.

Alyssa Petersel, Co-Founder and CEO of My Wellbeing and author of Somehow I Am Different, graduated from Northwestern University in 2013 with dual BA degrees in psychology and international studies, graduated summa cum laude from New York University in May 2017 with her Master's in Social Work, and graduated from The Writer's Institute non-fiction program at CUNY Graduate Center in May 2017. A native New Yorker, Alyssa now lives in Brooklyn and enjoys running, coffee, community, and social justice.
